2022 Toyota Supra Review

August 8th, 2022 by

The Toyota Supra is one of the most respected nameplates in the world. The Supra has been known for being one of the most iconic JDM vehicles in history. After a hiatus for more than 20 years, the Supra is back and is sold under Toyota’s high performance GR brand. Known as the 2022 Supra or the GR Supra, it is available for sale. So, how does it fare up?

The following is the 2022 Supra product highlight to tell you just that:

Features

The 2022 Supra is also known as the MK5 by its enthusiasts. It offers 4 trim levels and 2 powertrain options. As it is a modern-day Supra, you get all sorts of equipment and luxury on it. There is also the A91-CF edition which is lighter for higher performance, and is considered to be the top trim level.

Engine and Numbers

The powertrain is easily the most exciting part of a Toyota GR Supra and the 2022 version doesn’t disappoint. The standard engine is a 2-liter 4-cylinder which makes 255 hp and 295 lb-ft. If you’re used to 6-cylinder Supras, then you can also get a 3-liter straight-6 turbocharged engine.

This produces 382 hp and 368 lb-ft, and the basic transmission for both these engines is an 8-speed automatic. There’s also a newly added 6-speed stick shift manual gearbox for the Supra enthusiasts out there. Either way, the power is sent through a rear-wheel drive system, as expected from a Supra.

The results of these two powerplants do not disappoint. The 6-cylinder engine gets you a 0-62 mph time of around 3.7 seconds. The 4-cylinder is no slouch either and it too can achieve this feat in less than 5 seconds. The top speed available on the Supra is 160 mph.

Now, fuel efficiency is one of the last aspects of a Supra that matters. However, it has to be discussed as the current Supra is more efficient than ever – no matter the engine you pick. The 4-cylinder gets you 25 mpg city and 32 on the highway. The 6-cylinder isn’t far behind with 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

Interior and Technology

The Supra 2022 has a good-looking interior; one of the most refined and well-built ones out of all the sports cars today. Not only is it nice to look at and feel, but it has been engineered with German ingenuity so the design is quite smart. There are carbon fiber trimmings for lightness and durability.

This new Supra is more practical than the legendary MK4 and MK3. The boot space and the overall roominess of the cabin are pretty reasonable for what it brings to the table.

2022 Supra 2.0

The Supra 2.0 brings many standard features. For example, you get dual-zone climate control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, keyless entry, push-button ignition, an 8.8-inch gauge cluster, a power outlet and USB port. There are Alcantara/leather-wrapped sport seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

For the infotainment, there’s an 8.8-inch touchscreen which is connected to 4 speakers. It has Android and Apple capabilities as well. The safety equipment includes standard automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist), and cruise control.

2022 Supra 3.0

The 3.0 GR Supra adds a bigger engine to the mix. Other than that, you get power adjustability in the seats, along with heating capabilities. The infotainment system is upgraded, as it gets 6 more speakers, that takes the total up to 10.

2022 Supra 3.0 Premium

As suggested by its name, the 3.0 Premium Supra is the most sophisticated variant. It adds all-leather seats, red accents on the steering wheel, sport pedals, wireless charging for your phone and a head-up display. The infotainment gets a premium 12-speaker sound system from JBL.

2022 Supra A91-CF Edition

This is the 2022 Supra A91 Carbon Fiber Edition, and it loses some equipment to save weight on the inside, while the seats gain red accents. Most of its changes are on the exterior and can be noticed in the performance.

Exterior and Driving

The Toyota Supra has always commanded attention and this new one’s no different with its aggressive styling cues. The rim sizes vary from 18- to 19 inches and differ by their designs and finishes. The Supra A91 is distinguished by its carbon fiber accents including a carbon fiber splitter, rear spoiler and canards.

The colors on the Toyota Supra 2022 are the following:

  • Absolute Zero White
  • Nitro Yellow
  • Phantom (matte gray)
  • Renaissance Red 2.0
  • Nocturnal
  • Tungsten
  • Turbulence Grey

If you have a favorite color, better make sure that your desired trim level has it.

As far as the driving is concerned; a great word to describe it would be phenomenal. The GR Supra 2022 has been showered with praise for the way that it handles corners. On the inside, you get a comfortable environment, so the Supra will also make for a great cruiser.

Reliability and Warranty

JD Power has given the new Supra a predicted reliability rating of Fair and Consumer Reports’ opinion has also been favorable in this regard. The consumers who’ve bought this car also cannot help but love everything about it, including its dependability.

The Supra 2022 has a limited warranty of 3 years/36k miles and a powertrain warranty of 5 years/60k miles. You also get complimentary maintenance for 2 whole years/25k miles from Toyota, which puts the Supra ahead of its competitors in the aftersales department.

Verdict

So, how does the 2022 Supra fare up? Well, it can be described as a true Supra and a worthy successor to the legendary MK4. The new Supra drives well and is quick no matter which powertrain you choose. The interior is gorgeous and the standard features are endless.

This car does well in terms of safety and plushness, both. The exterior looks great and it is bound to stand out in traffic. The reliability is also decent and the aftersales are also class-topping.
