2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Review

For almost three decades, the Toyota RAV4 has proven to be a dependable vehicle for those that require a spacious, comfortable, capacious, reliable and efficient SUV. This is why it continues to be one of the best-selling crossover vehicles even today.
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid is available for purchase and one of its highlights is the all-new Woodland Edition. It is supposed to be an attempt from Toyota to make the RAV4 excel in another dimension of drivability. But is it a successful one?
To find out, the following is the 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Review:
Features
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid is a part of the fifth generation of Toyota’s compact crossover SUV. Sporting a mild Hybrid powertrain, it offers you a total of seven trim levels and a single engine option. The other two trim levels are offered exclusively on the 2023 RAV4 Prime.
The Woodland Edition is an all-new trim level offered this year, and it lies somewhere in the middle of the trim hierarchy. It adds a lot of hardware to the RAV4 to make it suitable for all your trailblazing needs, without compromising on style or comfort.
Powertrain and Numbers
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid produces 219 hp and 163 lb-ft courtesy of a 2.5-liter engine that works alongside a pair of electric motors. The setup sends power to the standard all-wheel drive system – one motor powers the rear axle: the other powers the front axle alongside the engine.
The transmission is a CVT gearbox, and it helps ensure that the 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 7 seconds. The towing capacity is respectable, maxing out at 1,750 lbs while the payload capacity goes up to 1,230 lbs.
The standard model is known as an efficient vehicle and the Hybrid even more so. The EPA says that it can do up to 41 mpg in the city, and 38 mpg on the highway. If you’re looking for a model that also provides an all-electric range, the RAV4 Prime should do the job.

Interior and Technology
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition comes with a stylish and practical interior design. It oozes excellent build quality and there are many high-end materials available. It can also comfortably seat up to five occupants due to ample legroom and headroom.
Despite the extra components due to the Hybrid system, it also doesn’t lose out on any trunk space. All RAV4 models are class leaders when it comes to the size of the trunk, and this includes this model. You also get a height-adjustable floor for easy loading.
You get a lovely black interior with ash gray fabric-trimmed headliner and silver door handles. There’s dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, keyless entry, a 7-inch instrumentation screen, an electronic parking brake, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.
Then we get to the infotainment system, which is centered around an 8-inch touchscreen. You get a six-speaker sound system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and many USB ports and power points for connectivity.
The safety department is quite loaded. It includes automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist), a backup camera, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control.
Exterior and Driving
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is a stellar looking crossover SUV with a sleek and modern exterior design. There are LED lights, a black hexagon-patterned bar front grille, heated and powered side mirrors, and unique raised black roof rails with cross bars.
But what makes this trim truly unique are the add-ons to prepare it for the trail. You get TRD tuned off-road suspension, fat off-road tires, unique 18-inch bronze-colored TRD-flow wheels, mud flaps, and of course, custom exterior badging.
The exterior colors offered on the 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition are:
- Midnight Black Metallic
- Cavalry Blue
- Ice Cap
Testers have praised the 2023 RAV4 Hybrid models for being quick, calling the powertrain refined and a deliverer of instant power. The handling is also sedan-like, as it remains composed when you throw it at a corner. The ride quality is also stellar despite the rugged nature of this model.
If you live in the countryside or are an off-road enthusiast, then the RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition should serve you well. It has been tuned well for handling rough and sticky roads without getting stuck. The power output is also adequate to help all the extra hardware keep moving.

Reliability and Warranty
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition boasts a lot of reliability as indicated by JD Power’s predicted reliability rating of 81 out of 100. On top of that Consumer Reports also expects it to be more reliable than the average new car. The reviews from current owners are also positive.
There are two warranties; the limited one is good for 3 years/36k miles while the powertrain one covers you for 5 years/60k miles. Toyota also gives you complimentary maintenance for a period of 2 years/25k miles.
Verdict
The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is a solid attempt by Toyota to create an off-road version of the company’s consumer favorite crossover. This is for many reasons starting with a powerful engine that doesn’t compromise on refinement, acceleration, or towing capacity.
The driving dynamics are great whether you’re driving on carpeted roads or not. On the inside, the cabin is as well-built as you’d expect from a Toyota since it’s meant to outlast its owner. The same can be said for overall reliability as this is a long-term investment.
There’s a lot of techs offered on this vehicle despite it being meant for rugged usage. The standard features are plentiful in terms of comfort and safety. And to top it all off, you get a nice complimentary maintenance package for a limited period from Toyota.
