2023 Tacoma Review
The Toyota Tacoma has always been a no-brainer in its category. It is known for being a tough-as-nails truck with a lot of power; a blessing on any worksite. The new Tacoma 2023 is out and about. So, how does it do against the increasingly competitive midsized truck class? To find out, the following is the 2023 Tacoma review:
The Toyota Tacoma is currently in its 3rd generation and the 2023 model features 7 trim levels (with multiple offroad-oriented trims) and 2 powertrain options. Toyota allows you to personalize the Tacoma with 2 cab sizes and 2 truck bed sizes as well. Inside, there are many amenities available and the cabin is quite a refined one.
Engine and Numbers
The basic engine on the 2023 Tacoma is a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder which produces 159 hp and 180 lb-ft. It is also available with a 3.5-liter V6 engine which makes about 278 hp and 265 lb-ft. The transmission offered with both is a 6-speed automatic.
This gearbox sends power to the rear wheels, while 4-wheel drive is optional. Despite being a heavy pickup truck, the Tacoma can do a 0-60 mph time of around 7.5 seconds. This is very respectable for the mid-sized pickup class and it makes the truck quicker than many compact sedans.
Then come the towing and payload capacities. You’ll be elated to know that the 2023 Tacoma can haul up to 6800 lbs. if you equip it right. Furthermore, the Tacoma can carry payloads up to 1685 lbs. with the right drive system.
The most fuel-efficient Tacoma is the rear-wheel drive version that is equipped with the basic engine. it will do up to 20 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, according to the EPA. You’ll be glad to know that the V6 engine will get you the same combined rating as it will do up to 19 mpg city and 24 highway.
Interior and Technology
The new Toyota Tacoma 2023 sports an appealing interior that has been built with good-quality materials. The refinement doesn’t let you feel like you’re in a rugged midsized pickup truck. And as expected, there’s a lot of room for the 4 or 5 occupants of the vehicle.
Of course, the main cargo area is the truck bed but you can also store a bunch of items in the cabin. The interior storage is pretty reasonable in terms of the cubbies, the pockets, and the compartments that you get.
The following is the standard equipment available on each trim:
2023 Tacoma SR
The basic Tacoma offers a reasonable amount for its low price tag. You get dual-zone climate control, a 7-inch touchscreen connected to 6 speakers (with Android and Apple capabilities), etc. There’s a lot for safety; including forward collision warning (w/automated emergency braking), adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning
2023 Tacoma SR5
Then comes the Tacoma SR5, which is a tad bit more sophisticated. It gets you a leather-wrapped steering wheel, keyless entry, and a larger 8-inch touchscreen.
2023 Tacoma TRD Sport
The Tacoma TRD Sport gets you push-button ignition, wireless charging for your phone, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, 10-way powered adjustability on the driver’s seat, and a leather-wrapped gear lever.
2023 Tacoma TRD Off-Road
As suggested by its name, the TRD Off-Road model enhances the trailblazing abilities of the Tacoma. This is why all of its upgrades are on the outside and the cabin remains the same.
2023 Tacoma Limited
The Tacoma Limited offers the plushest driving experience here. It adds leather trimmings to the seats, which are now heated. You also get a premium sound system by JBL, and satellite navigation. Blind spot monitoring w/rear cross-traffic alerts and rear parking sensors are also standard now.
2023 Tacoma Trail Special Edition
This model is similar to the aforementioned TRD Off-Road, as it preps up the Tacoma for offroading. This is why it loses some fancy amenities in order to make it more rugged and lighter.
2023 Tacoma TRD Pro
The TRD Pro is another off-road-oriented trim, but it has all the luxuries that you get in the Limited trim; hence, it offers the best of both worlds. And yes, it comes with its very own accents.
Exterior and Driving
The Tacoma 2023 is an awesome-looking truck and you can personalize it based on your requirements by picking the right trim. Overall, the trims are differentiated by the front grille and wheel size. You can choose between the Access and Double cabins; plus, you are offered 5- and 6-foot truck bed sizes.
The TRD models are especially exclusive. The TRD Pro comes with offroading shocks and higher ground clearance; also, it has its own unique sound. Meanwhile, the TRD Offroad brings fatter tires and has a skid plate for protection. You can also add the SX or the Chrome appearance package to the 2023 Taco.
The exterior colors on the Tacoma 2023 are:
- Solar Octane
- Ice Cap
- Blue Crush Metallic
- Wind Chill Pearl
- Celestial Silver Metallic
- Electric Lime
- Magnetic Gray Metallic
- Barcelona Red Metallic
- Lunar Rock
Before opting for a trim, do make sure that your favorite color is available on it.
While it is reasonably quick in a straight line, you can also rely on this truck to drive well in the bends. It is very agile for its size and weight. For high-performance tarmac driving, you can get the TRD Sport. For ease of offroading, the TRD Pro, TRD Offroad, and the Trail Special Edition are the go-to options.
Reliability and Warranty
The 2022 Tacoma did well in JD Power’s predicted reliability score and the 2023 did even better with a score of 83 out of 100. Consumer Reports hasn’t rated it yet though, and there aren’t many user reviews yet as the truck is pretty new.
You’ll be getting some great aftersales though. The limited warranty will cover you for 3 years/36k miles and the powertrain warranty will be good for 5 years/60k miles. You will also get complimentary maintenance for 2 years/25k miles, whichever comes first.
The new Toyota Tacoma 2023 is a stellar option in the midsize category. It offers a trim level for every type of consumer in the market. The Tacoma’s features allow you to get an adequately equipped work truck or a full-on luxury truck. It is efficient, reliable, and won’t disappoint when you put your foot down.
