2023 Toyota Crown XLE Review

After more than half a century, the Toyota Crown has finally debuted in the United States. This means that more people will now have access to its luxury, performance, and capabilities. The new Crown is a sedan-crossover, and it has garnered quite the following as a result.

Note that you can also opt for a more powerful turbocharged engine on the 2023 Crown Platinum trim that makes 340 hp and 400 lb-ft, and is able to do 0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. Also, since the Crown is also considered an SUV by many standards, it should be able to tow.

While there isn’t a tow rating for the 2023 Crown models in the USA, internationally, the Crown is rated with a maximum towing capacity of around 2600 lbs. You can confirm this with your local dealer.

So, how fuel efficient is it then? Well, the 2023 Crown XLE should be a very thrifty vehicle to drive. This is thanks to its stellar rating of 42 mpg in the city and 41 mpg on the highway from the EPA.

Interior and Technology

Any vehicle named Crown should feel like a palace on the inside and this one sure does. Not only has it been designed aesthetically to please the eye, but it is also meant to be user-friendly and ergonomic. The build quality is superb, even though this is the base model.

The same can be said about the roominess of the cabin; there’s plenty of headroom and legroom for all five occupants. Also, you get a respectable amount of trunk space and cubbies to go, even though this is a premium vehicle.

The 2023 Toyota Crown XLE features a lovely black fabric interior and upholstery, plus a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and SoftTex-trimmed seats. The tech includes push-button ignition, keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, and an electronic parking brake.

You also get heated and 8-way adjustable front seats, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. For infotainment, there’s a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and another 12.3-inch screen for instrumentation. You also get wireless charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and many USB ports.

The Crown XLE 2023 also offers a stacked safety department. Tech includes automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist), blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control (w/lane centering), and a rearview camera.

Exterior and Driving

The 2023 Toyota Crown is one of the most sophisticated vehicles offered by Toyota and it certainly looks like it. It is a hybrid between a crossover and a sedan, and sports aggressive styling – both factors are enough to make it stand out but there’s more.

The 2023 Crown XLE gets Bi-LED projector headlights, and LED DRLs, taillights and stop lights. Also included are heated and powered side mirrors (w/blind spot warning indicators). High Solar Energy-Absorbing (HSEA) glass and 19-inch alloy wheels are also standard.

Those who have tested the 2023 Crown have described it as an all-rounder vehicle. This is because it is a quick vehicle that is built to be cruised around in. It encourages safe driving with its handling capabilities and the brakes are decent.

Reliability and Warranty

The 2023 Crown XLE and the rest of its siblings have not received a reliability rating from JD Power yet. However, it is expected to be more reliable than most new cars according to Consumer Reports. The reviews from actual consumers are also positive.

There are three warranties offered. The first is a limited one for 3 years/36k miles, the second is a powertrain one for 5 years/60k miles, and the third a hybrid one for 8 years/100k miles. Toyota is one of the few automakers to offer complimentary maintenance, for 2 years/25k miles.

Verdict

The 2023 RAV4 Hybrid Woodland Edition is a solid attempt by Toyota to create an off-road version of the company’s consumer favorite crossover. This is for many reasons starting with a powerful engine that doesn’t compromise on refinement, acceleration, or towing capacity.

The driving dynamics are great whether you’re driving on carpeted roads or not. On the inside, the cabin is as well-built as you’d expect from a Toyota since it’s meant to outlast its owner. The same can be said for overall reliability as this is a long-term investment.

There’s a lot of techs offered on this vehicle despite it being meant for rugged usage. The standard features are plentiful in terms of comfort and safety. And to top it all off, you get a nice complimentary maintenance package for a limited period from Toyota.
