2023 Toyota Tundra Review

January 5th, 2023 by

The Toyota Tundra has a rightful rep for being the number one pick of 2023! It is a true workhorse and a symbol of pride for Toyota in the highly competitive full-size truck class. The Tundra has always showcased itself as a powerful, comfortable, and reliable machine that cannot be stopped. The 2023 Tundra looks to do the same; the following covers its highlights:

Features

The new Tundra 2023 is part of the one-year-old 3rd generation of the half-ton pickup. This year, the truck offers you the choice of 7 trim levels, 2 engines (the hybrid 2023 Tundra i-FORCE MAX is sold separately), 3 bed sizes, and 2 cab sizes. The changes to this year’s model include the all-new SX package to enhance its appearance.

Powertrain and Numbers

The 2023 Tundra engine is a state-of-the-art 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 engine that produces a minimum of 349 hp and 405 lb.-ft. If you opt for the higher trim levels, it can produce 41 more horses and 74 more torques.

The gearbox is a 10-speed automatic transmission. This sends power to a rear- or 4-wheel drive system. It works wonders as the new Tundra sure can accelerate. It can go from 0 to 62 mph in just about 6 seconds, which makes it quicker than most sedans.

But that’s not all as this sporty pickup can tow and haul quite a bit. The Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of 12k lbs. and it has a maximum towing capacity of 1940 lbs. These are respectable figures for the category it’s in.

Furthermore, even the non-hybrid 2023 Tundra is able to get a commendable fuel economy. The truck is rated for 18 mpg city and 24 mpg highway by the EPA. If you get the hybrid, you can get up to 20 mpg city and 24 highway.

Interior and Technology

The cabin of the Tundra is probably the most sophisticated out of all its rivals. Yes, the design is quite pleasing to the eyes, but the feel of the cabin is even better. This is due to the high quality of the materials used throughout it. The cabin is very roomy as you’d expect from a large truck, no matter the cab size you pick.

The cubby storage is more than generous as well. There’s also a storage compartment under the rear seat of the truck.

2023 Tundra SR

The entry-level Tundra trim is the SR which is quite generous in terms of amenities. You get push-button ignition, keyless entry, a 4.2-inch display screen for instrumentation, and a single-zone climate control system.

For the infotainment, there’s an 8-inch touchscreen that is connected to a stereo with 6 speakers. The setup is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. As of now, Toyota is also offering a 3-month Platinum subscription to SiriusXM radio.

The best part is that you get a whole suite of safety features as standard. For example, you get forward-collision warning (w/automated emergency braking), a backup camera, lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist), and adaptive cruise control.

2023 Tundra SR5

Most of the changes on the Tundra SR5 are on the outside. On the inside, there is a larger number of optional extras that is available.

2023 Tundra Limited

The 2023 Tundra Limited offers a more upscale environment with its leather-trimmed shifter and steering wheel, and soft touches on numerous components. The climate control is upgraded to a dual-zone one, and you receive an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

The seats are SofTex-trimmed and the front ones are heated and ventilated. The driver gets 8-way power adjustability with a memory function. The infotainment touchscreen is even bigger at 14 inches. Blind-spot monitoring and parking sensors are also standard on this trim.

2023 Tundra Platinum

Despite the aforementioned trim being very high-end, the Platinum trim level provides an even plusher experience. Along with leather seats, additions to the standard list include a panoramic roof, ambient mood lighting, a panoramic view monitor, and wireless charging for your phone.

You also get a bigger digital meter for the instrumentation, a digital display auto-dimming rear-view mirror, heating and ventilation on all the seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 12-speaker sound system tuned by JBL. Also, we can’t forget the PLATINUM badging.

2023 Tundra 1794 Edition

This Tundra trim is as classy as it gets with its American walnut wood-grain interior trim and 1794 badging on its custom all-weather floor mats.

2023 Tundra TRD Pro

The 2023 TRD Pro is the off-road version of the Tundra so it comes with a terrain monitoring system and it loses some amenities since it is more focused on performance. You get plenty of TRD-oriented accents throughout the truck

2023 Tundra Capstone

The Tundra Capstone is the cream of the crop as it is at the top trim level. Like the 1794, it also gets you a custom wood trim – it is a dark American walnut wood-grain design. On top of all that’s mentioned above, you also get a 10-inch head-up display, semi-aniline leather-trimmed seats (w/premium contrast stitching), and CAPSTONE badging.

Exterior and Driving

The new Tundra 2023 is a great take on the modernization of the traditional Tundra stylings. The truck is offered in two cab sizes – the extended- and the crew-cab. There are three truck bed lengths available; the lengths are 5.5-, 6.5-, and 8.1-foot.

There are differences between the various trims in the front grilles, wheels, and roofs. The TRD Pro is the most unique due to its thicker offroad tires, upgraded shocks, skid plates, and rims.

The following is a list of the exterior colors available on the 2023 Tundra:

  • White
  • Wind Chill Pearl
  • Magnetic Gray Metallic
  • Celestial Silver Metallic
  • Midnight Black Metallic
  • Super Sonic Red
  • Army Green
  • Lunar Rock
  • Blueprint

Make sure that your favorite trim has the color you like.

The Tundra is now better to drive than ever thanks to its new coil springs. It is faster than ever and doesn’t feel like a heavy truck on the corners. While it is great off-road, the TRD Pro takes it to even higher levels.

Reliability and Warranty

The new Toyota Tundra 2023 is a great truck from every angle. Its new engine is very powerful and efficient, and its new suspension enhances the riding experience. These two components combine to give the truck a high performance.

The trim levels offer a lot of value and they’re all unique in their own way. Other than that, the new interior and exterior are superb to look at. The equipment inside is top-notch, with the highlight being the standard safety systems.
