The all-new 4th generation Toyota Tacoma is upon us. The 2024 Tacoma’s design is an all-new one and this applies to the powertrain and many other components as well. But how does it fare up based on the limited info available about it?

Powertrain and Numbers

The 2024 Tacoma’s engine is a 2.4-liter turbo, which comes with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The 2024 Tacoma manual has a 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine outputs range from 278 hp and 317 lb-ft (base engine), to 326 hp and 465 lb-ft (i-Force MAX) based on your trim.

This is due to most of the trims being available with the jumpier i-Force version of the standard engine – the aforementioned i-Force MAX is the most powerful and is a hybrid. Both rear- and four-wheel drive are offered.

Based on the information available now, the Tacoma 2024 should be able to tow up to 6500 lbs if you equip it right. The maximum payload capacity is expected to be around 1709 lbs. We’re still waiting for the acceleration figures from Toyota and the fuel economy ratings from the EPA.

Interior and Technology

On the inside, the 2024 Tacoma’s interior gets a modernized look, and the build quality is also solid. Move up the trims and you’ll get more luxurious materials adorning the cabin. The legroom and headroom are plenty, and so is the in-cabin storage.

You can find infotainment screens ranging from 7 to 12.3 inches based on the trim level. Other cool technology available includes heated and ventilated seats, and Toyota’s state-of-the-art IsoDynamic seat to control body movement on rough terrain.

Expect a host of standard safety features which includes forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. If you like physical safety features more, the TRD Pro offers anti-roll bars as well.

Exterior and Driving

On the outside, you get a redesigned body that looks even sharper and more athletic than the previous model. There are extended and crew-cab body styles available. The truck bed sizes are 6 and 5 feet long. You get 17-18-inch wheels with varying finishes on the trim levels.

You can find high-tech coil spring suspension on most of the models that enhance the ride quality. Also, the 2024 Tacoma Trailhunter and TRD Pro models are off-road oriented so they feature goodies such as skid plates, fat off-roading tires, and upgraded suspension.

Reliability and Warranty

Tacomas are known to be dependable trucks that can last for generations. JD Power has not rated the Tacoma 2024 for its reliability yet. However, Consumer Reports says that it expects this truck to have “average” reliability which is a good sign to go for it.

Toyota covers this truck for 3 years/36k miles as part of the limited warranty, and 5 years/60k miles as part of the powertrain warranty. You’ll also be entitled to complimentary maintenance for 2 years/25k miles.

Verdict

Based on the information we have now, we can conclude that the 2024 Tacoma is going to be another success story by Toyota. It should deliver in every aspect from capability to comfort. The truck should be a true workhorse while the off-road models are a treat for the trailblazers.
